St. Robert Bellarmine is a Roman Catholic Community built on a foundation of faith in God, family values, and a strong work ethic. We desire a deeper relationship with God and each other through the Eucharist, the gifts of the Holy Spirit, and knowledge of Sacred Scripture. We are called to love God and serve others.
Saint Robert Bellarmine Parish was formed from 17 local families who were part of Saint Aloysius Parish (Saint Jude the Apostle) in Wilmerding. As the Catholic population grew, Father Michael McGarey established the East McKeesport area as a separate mission, using the Urban Theater on Broadway (now the site of Rite Aid) for the celebration of Mass. The first Mass was celebrated on Easter Sunday, April 12, 1950, with an estimated 225 families attending. The church was known as the "Urban Catholic Church" until officially named "Saint Robert Bellarmine" on May 2, 1951.
The current church building was dedicated on August 19, 1972.
